The winegrowers of the Coteaux de l’Isle

A terroir already identified in the 15th century as remarkable and celebrated by Henri IV.

This terroir in the Libourne region is the winegrowing heritage of our winegrowers.

Since 1936, around Etienne MOURE, twenty winegrowers have decided to join forces to create a wine cooperative in Maransin.

These winegrowers took their destiny into their own hands and joined together on the basis of cooperation (1 man = 1 vote) to pool their grape production, vinify and market their wines.

The site of Maransin was chosen because of its proximity to the main roads between Bordeaux and Paris and also because of its exceptional white wine production.

Today, the winery groups together about fifty producers for 250 hectares of vines on an exceptional territory which includes 25 communes of the Libourne region.

All our winegrowers run small vineyards (from 2 ha to 18 ha maximum) on which each winegrower uses all his or her knowledge and know-how to offer you the best grapes for vinification.

Our history

It is built every day with the richness of our terroirs with clay soils, deep in the north west, and gravelly soils found mainly on the first terraces of the Isle and Dordogne rivers.

A vineyard situated between 20 and 100 metres above sea level, favourable to the ripening of the berries of our Merlot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec for the reds and Sauvignon and Sémillon for the whites.

Today, a collective history combines new practices and methods of parcel management to meet rigorous specifications.

A commitment to quality

Since 2012, a set of specifications has set out the conditions of production in terms of working the soil and treating diseases such as mildew and oidium. A winemaker’s commitment that prohibits many chemical products and requires a high degree of traceability to preserve the biodiversity that is essential to produce wines with a high environmental value, terra-Vitis or Organic.

Our cultivation practices are transparent and subject to declaration before each harvest by the winegrower under the aegis of our technical department.

The entire vineyard is monitored and managed on a parcel-by-parcel basis according to the nature of the soil and the climatic conditions. On each plot, maturity checks are carried out and the grapes are tasted to determine the optimal maturity and the date of harvest.

Respect for nature and traditions

Our old and young winegrowers are attached to the respect of the terroir, respecting the physiology of the vine and the biodiversity every day on each of their plots. With an adapted pruning for controlled yields, mechanical working of the soil, grassing, maintenance of hedges… Our winegrowers are part of the sustainability with these winegrowing traditions.

Every day, our winery shows that its past is not buried, but rather participates in the present.

MARANSIN is particularly rich in terms of the history of viticulture and social relations. For our members, the issue of the past is not nostalgia, but rather the possibility of thinking about history and therefore the future.

Discover their secrets and their know-how by tasting, on any occasion, the wines of their production.
